Wonderful women share words of wisdom
On a glorious Queensland day on May 26, guests travelled to the Grand View Hotel to listen to inspirational women speak about their struggles, opportunities and adventures in life at Karen Phillip’s Women’s Words of Wisdom, Power and Passion literary lunch.
Guests enjoyed listening to Karen’s reasons for creating the book, while four of the book’s contributors spoke of their journeys, including Christine Fortelny – long-time restaurateur and regional restaurant reviewer who became one of the youngest breast cancer support volunteers after surviving cancer three times and having a mastectomy and partial paralysis; Tammy Hamawi – one of a handful of women from around the world to achieve ultimate success in the tough industry of international shipping; Karni Liddell – who was born with spinal muscular atrophy and became one of Australia’s most successful Paralympic swimmers; and local author Kay Danes – who survived as a political hostage for 11 months in Laos and is an esteemed member of the Australian Defence community and consulted for the National Human Rights Commission of Australia and Joint Standing Committee on Treaties and to the Secretary.
Words of Wisdom, Power and Passion is a celebration of 50 of Australia’s most influential women in fashion, business, sports, politics, media and everyday life. Through their insights, valor and compassion come some of life’s most important lessons.
