Your Desires
Your desire is your inner passion that keeps you feeling fueled and motivated in pursuing your goals.
ELEMENT 2.1: YOUR DESIRES

YOUR WHY
Our level of desire has more influence on the amount of energy we feel at any given moment than any other factor in our life. We can eat well, exercise frequently, and get plenty of sleep—but if we are not in tune with the desire within us, we never feel truly healthy or energised.
The root cause of almost all despair and depression stems from a lack of desire. When you lack passion, you lose touch with hope and happiness too. Therefore, it is essential for you to get in touch not only with what you want, but why you want it.
YOUR FEARS
It’s also essential to acknowledge the fears that arise when you think about actually pursuing your desires. It can sometimes be confronting to go after our desires because the ego part of our consciousness responds with fear:
“What happens if I fail?”
“What if I am rejected?”
“What if no one likes what I do?”
The human brain reacts to the perceived threat of emotional pain with the same intensity as it reacts to the very real threat of physical pain. Physically, we respond with fear, which consumes—and then drains—our energy as well as our cognitive abilities.

YOUR GOAL
When your fear of failure or rejection is stronger than your desire, you falter before you can take the steps that will lead you closer to your ultimate goal. In order to effectively combat these fears, you must go through these three stages:
- Prioritise the heart over the ego. The ego does not want to risk failure, but the heart is willing to take risks to achieve real contentment.
- Know why you are pursuing your goals in the first place. Being in touch with the motivations behind your desires helps you persevere with courage and clarity.
- Recognise what emotional fear is. Physical fear is a perfectly healthy fight-or-flight instinct that serves you well. However, emotional fear—also called imagined fear or “what if” fear—is an imaginary “wall” that can stand between where you are now and where you want to be.
