Your Internal Energetic System

Your Internal Energetic System - Chakras

Just as your body has a nervous system, a lymphatic system, a digestive system, and a circulatory system, it also has an energetic system.

ELEMENT 7.2: YOUR INTERNAL ENERGETIC SYSTEM

“The chakras are very intelligent. They are like the software of the whole computer body.”
–Sri Dharma Mittra

YOUR CHAKRAS

Your aura is closely related to another element of your energetic system: your chakras. In Sanskrit, the word “chakra” means “wheel” or “vortex,” and in diagrams of the seven chakras, you’ll see that each chakra looks like a ball of energy hovering over different parts of the spine, from the base of the spine up to the crown of the head.

The chakras represent different aspects of our consciousness, but they are also closely associated with the physical body. Each chakra corresponds not only to specific emotions and mindsets, but also to different parts of the endocrine and nervous system. However, the chakras are not part of the physical body; instead, they are aspects of our consciousness, similar to the way the subtle bodies of our aura are aspects of our consciousness.

YOUR DISRUPTIONS

When we refer to chakras being “open,” we mean that they are functioning optimally and allowing energy to flow freely throughout the body. However, when chakras are “closed” or “over-active,” they throw off the balance of energy throughout the body and cause discomfort and disease.

Thus, we can usually connect any physical maladies we may be experiencing to disruptions in our chakras—which in turn come from disruptions in our consciousness. In other words, our consciousness connects not just to our brain but to every part of our self and every cell in our body. Through your consciousness, you can communicate with and heal the different parts of your body.

Below, you’ll learn more about the seven chakras and how they affect your endocrine glands.

Your Chakra System

Once you fully understand the relationship between your chakras and your endocrine glands, you’ll realise how crucial these energetic centres are in maintaining the health of all aspects of your being.

Base/root chakra

Location: Base of the spine/perineum
Colour: Red
Areas it governs: The root chakra governs the back, feet, hips, spine, and legs. It is our centre of physical energy, grounding, and self-preservation. The root chakra determines whether we feel “at home” in our selves.
Gland: The root chakra is associated with the adrenal glands. These glands produce several hormones, including adrenaline, which governs our “fight or flight” responses.
Issues: Survival, belonging, safety
When out of balance: Physical effects: anorexia, obesity, osteoarthritis, autoimmune disease, arthritis, cancer, AIDS, fatigue, and kidney or spinal column problems. Emotional effect: fear and anxiety (when chakra is underactive); materialism, greed, rigidity (when chakra is overactive).
When in balance: You feel grounded, stable, and secure. You feel at ease in the present moment and have a good sense of connection to your physical body.

Sacral chakra

Location: Groin/sacrum
Colour: Orange
Areas it governs: The sacral chakra governs the sexual organs, bladder, bowel, and lower intestine. It also governs our emotions and our sexuality.
Gland: The ovaries and testicles control the production of sex hormones in the body.
Issues: Sexual relationships, money, creativity
When out of balance: Physical effects: bladder problems, sexual repression, gall and kidney stones, vaginal cancer, and prostate cancer. Emotional effects: greed, lack of emotion, distance from others (when chakra is underactive); uncontrollable emotion (when chakra is overactive).
When in balance: You feel at ease with emotional expression, intimacy, sex, and passion.

Stomach chakra

Location: Solar plexus
Colour: Yellow
Areas it governs: The stomach chakra governs the stomach, upper intestines, upper back, and upper spine. It also governs feelings of assertiveness and agency.
Gland: The pancreas secretes insulin, which assists with the digestion of food.
Issues: Status, self-worth, confidence
When out of balance: Physical effects: diabetes, digestive disorders, ulcers, and hypoglycaemia. Emotional effects: passivity, indecisiveness, timidity (when underactive); domineering and aggressive behaviour (when chakra is overactive).
When in balance: You have good self-esteem and feel confident and in control.

Heart chakra

Location: Heart
Colour: Green
Areas it governs: The heart chakra governs the circulatory system and thymus gland. It also affects feelings of compassion, love, belonging, and spirituality.
Gland: The thymus, which is located above the heart, produces lymphocytes, a vital part of the body’s immune response.
Issues: Service to others, forgiveness, tolerance
When out of balance: Physical effects: cancer, high blood pressure, and heart problems. Emotional effects: coldness and detachment (when chakra is underactive); neediness, clinginess, resentment, grief (when chakra is overactive).
When in balance: You are compassionate and friendly, and your relationships are harmonious. You are quick to forgive and accept others.

Throat chakra

Location: Throat
Colour: Blue
Areas it governs: The throat chakra governs the respiratory system, thyroid gland, throat, mouth, teeth, tongue, and jaw. It also governs communication and self-expression.
Gland: The thyroid produces thyroxine, which controls the body’s metabolism.
Issues: Honesty, judgment
When out of balance: Physical effects: asthma, neck problems, thyroid issues, sore throat, and tense jaw. Emotional effects: lack of communication, shyness, not speaking your truth (when chakra is underactive); talking too much, not listening enough (when chakra is overactive).
When in balance: You feel creative and at ease with expressing your thoughts and emotions.

Third eye chakra

Location: Forehead
Colour: Indigo
Areas it governs: The third eye chakra governs the automatic nervous system, pituitary gland, skull, eyes, and brain. It also governs intuition, insight, and psychic powers.
Gland: The pituitary gland releases hormones that control the body’s growth.
Issues: Intuition, understanding
When out of balance: Physical effects: glaucoma, headaches, neurological problems, and central nervous system issues. Emotional effects: tendency to rely on other’s opinions and intelligence rather than your own (when chakra is underactive); rigidity in thinking or over-reliance on belief systems, living in a world of fantasy (when chakra is overactive).
When in balance: You have a strong intuition, and you perceive clearly and without bias.

Crown chakra

Location: Crown of the head
Colour: Violet
Areas it governs: The crown chakra governs the spinal cord, brain stem, and nerves. It also governs your inner wisdom and connection to a higher power.
Gland: The pineal gland produces melatonin, which affects your sleep cycle.
Issues: Peace, acceptance
When out of balance: Physical effects: exhaustion, epilepsy, and issues with the brain and nerves. Emotional effects: spiritually disconnected, thinking rigidly (when chakra is underactive); over-intellectualising, disregard for bodily needs (when chakra is overactive).
When in balance: You are self-aware, enlightened, and maintain an open perspective. You live with a sense of deep groundedness and trust, knowing that you are being guided along the right path.
