Your Drivers
Your drivers are your “engines”: the resilience, grit, and determination that drive you forward and help you adapt to changing circumstances.

YOUR Self-AWARENESS
Just as a car full of fuel is never going to get you anywhere until you press the accelerator, desire alone cannot take you where you want to go. You need a way of transmuting that desire into forward momentum. That’s where your drivers come in.
In the words of Ian C. Woodward, Professor of Management Practice in Organisational Behaviour at INSEAD, our drivers are the “worldviews, emotions, personality traits, as well as the values and motivators that either promote or impede efforts to change.” Leaders have to increase their self-awareness of their drivers—and conversely, their blockers—before they can effectively enact change in their habits and behaviours.

YOUR BLOCKERS
While drivers are the motivators that impel us to act, blockers are the underlying assumptions and biases that prevent us from truly changing.
For example, a leader who finds that he dominates conversations (and who wants to change that habit) needs to understand the “why” behind his drive to talk over others before he can truly change. If he identifies one of his drivers as “continual learning,” he will find himself more motivated to listen to others because he knows it will lead to more learning on his part And if he identifies “anxiety that things will go wrong” as a blocker, he can more clearly identify when that blocker is tempting him to overfunction in conversations.
YOUR INSIGHTS
