Verbal Practice

Taking part in intimate conversations to expand your understanding of vulnerability and the power that comes along with it

ELEMENT 6.3: VERBAL PRACTICE

“For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them.”
–Aristotle

YOUR TRUTHFUL COMFORT ZONE

The practice of learning to speak your truth, no matter how frightening the prospect, starts in the safe and supportive environment of this session and continues through your own verbal practice … at home, socially, and in the workplace.

Together, we’ll explore where your truthful “comfort zone” begins and ends. What inner thoughts and feelings are you comfortable expressing, and with whom? What inner thoughts and feelings would you never express, and why?

This third element is all about finding your limits and then expanding them. Quite often, when we imagine others are judging us, we are projecting our own self-judgment onto others. When you stop judging yourself, you very often find that others stop judging you too.

The first part of this process involves you discovering where you feel vulnerable. The second part involves discovering what you are willing to say to the world from that place of vulnerability. And the third part involves sharing stories about yourself to help you realise that your vulnerability is actually your greatest strength.

We have all had the experience of listening to someone share a story from their own life about something superficial. While we might have been amused or vaguely interested, we most likely were not moved or inspired. Equally, we have all had the experience of listening to someone share something deep that requires them to be vulnerable, after which we cannot help but be moved and inspired.

Vulnerability helps people form stronger connections. Thus, the more vulnerable we become as we share our innermost fears, joys, and desires, the more empowered, confident, and connected we become.

Although we’ll start this process during the session, it is up to you to continue it out in the “real world.” It’s important to note that this is not a process that can be rushed. Start slowly, first by becoming more vulnerable with those who are closest to you, and then moving outward through your Relationship Onion. Pause at each level to become comfortable before moving on to the next.
