Persuasion

Persuasion

Cultivate mindsets and behaviours in others

ELEMENT 3.4.1: PERSUASION

“To be persuasive, we must be believable; to be believable, we must be credible;
to be credible, we must be truthful.”

–Edward R. Murrow

YOUR PERSUASION CHARACTERISTICS

When we talk about persuasion, we’re talking about your ability to cultivate certain mindsets and behaviours in others. Truly persuasive leaders don’t get what they want through pressuring or directing; instead, they inspire others to identify with their aspirations and work towards an inspiring goal.

In this sub-element, we’ll look at how you uniquely relate to the persuasion characteristic by asking the following questions:

  • Are my opinions and directions heard positively by my employees?
  • Do I appear knowledgeable when directing others?
  • Do I explain the “why” behind changes or new initiatives?
  • Am I encouraging buy-in to my initiatives?
  • Do I seek the support of others when persuading?
  • Do my employees see the personal benefit they can gain from following my direction?

You’ll then gain insight into how you can more powerfully:

  • Build trusting relationships
  • Encourage deeper connections
  • Garner the support of others

With renewed insight into the art of persuasion, you’ll now be able to implement positive and impactful changes for both your company and your employees.
